Though coronavirus has temporarily prevented the 2020 MotoGP season from taking place, the expectations for Suzuki remains the same and the target is clear.

Suzuki will celebrate their 60th Anniversary in racing this year, and everyone in the team are feeling confident. After having finishing fourth in the 2019 championship, Suzuki is aiming higher than ever with Alex Rins and Joan Mir. “Since we came back to MotoGP in 2015, we have been consistently progressing and our policy to invest in young talents and help them grow has become our distinctive element”, stated Davide Brivio, Suzuki’s Team Manager.

“We believed in Maverick Vinales and we brought him to the first step of the podium. Alex Rins followed the same path, debuting with us as a rookie in 2017. He scored 5 podium finishes in 2018, and 2 victories last year. Alongside Alex, 2017 Moto3 world champion Joan Mir is improving after just one year of apprenticeship”.

“As strong as the two victories we had with Rins in 2019 were, it’s now time to raise the bar. We want to fight consistently for the podium. In order to achieve this, over the winter we worked hard to gain more consistency in the race pace and improve the time attack in qualifying”, continued Brivio. “Joan has one more year in the premier class and we look forward to positive competition bet it’s now time to raise the bar. ween teammates that can help bring us to the next level”.

Over the winter, Suzuki proved to be one of the most balanced bikes of the grid. Thanks to its V4 in line engine, the 2020 GSX-RR has maintained its strengths in handling and turning and improved in terms of top speed. On the new tyre, the Italian manager commented: “Michelin did a very good job throughout the 2019 season developing this new rear carcass. We can use the tyres quiet well, and we are satisfied.”

Brivio is reflective of the company’s philosophy to invest in young riders and help them grow. “The project was born a few years ago. We made a decision with generational change in mind.” admits Brivio. “Sooner or later, there will be a new generation of riders and our goal is to create a team which has two strong riders who able to compete for the win. We are happy to have Rins and Mir and there is no doubt that Alex Rins and Joan Mir are two of the most promising talents of the future in MotoGP.”
