During a press conference at Qatar circuit on Thursday evening Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta confirmed that the postponed Thailand race will be now be held in September.

MotoGP will now head to Buriram for the weekend of 3rd and 4th October, taking the place of the Gran Premio de Aragon which has been brought forward a week to 26th and 27th of September.

For now, that leaves 19 MotoGP races in the calendar.

When asked about the current situation Carmelo said: “Last Saturday we started to see problems with certain nationalities and people who had visited Italy being allowed into Qatar. The main aim of the FIM, IRTA and Dorna is to maintain the Championship and until the law forbids us from going to a country, we will continue.

We are waiting to send all the materials to COTA [now the first full MotoGP race of the season] until the last moment. If the situation changes between now and that moment, we will have to make a decision.”

When asked if future races in the season could take place with spectators being banned from the circuits he said: ‘Anything is possible. For us, the most important thing is to make races.”
